A few weeks ago I decided to make the plunge… I got lash extensions. Now we’ve all heard the horror stories of lash extensions where people leave with swollen red eyes and their lashes fall off, but thankfully this was NOT my experience. I actually really enjoy my lash extensions and am going to explain everything I know about them and what my honest opinions are. I hope this helps if you are on the fence or just curious about them.
Above is a photo of my lash extensions about four days after the initial application so that you can see what they look like with a full face of makeup!
I showed up to my appointment to get a full lash set and immediately had to sign a waiver saying that I would not sue the salon if something bad happened. This scared the crap out of me omg. I really thought about turning around and leaving right then and there, but I took the risk. It was a nice salon, it looked clean, the last specialist got great reviews, so I went for it. The specialist took me into a quiet, small, warm room and we went over exactly what I wanted. I asked for lashes that looked somewhat natural but added length. I also asked for the outer lashes to be a touch longer than the inner ones (this is just my personal preference). The specialist agreed and went over the procedure.
Two hours later she was done with the application. I will say, if you don’t like people touching your eyes this is NOT for you. You have to be really comfortable with things near your eyes in order to have a peaceful experience. I looked at the lashes and loved how they looked. It took me a few hours to get used to how they looked, kind of like when you get a new hair cut or color.
Taking care of the lashes is super easy. You just wash them morning and night with baby shampoo or a special lash shampoo. I personally use the Chrissanthie Lash Cleaner because it doesn’t make my eyes sting. Along with washing them, you just brush them out with a clean mascara wand after washing or whenever you feel like it.
Something a lot of people don’t realize is your natural lashes fall out and grow back in about every four weeks. So it is completely natural for the lash extensions to fall off with your natural lashes. Because of this, it’s recommended to get “fills”. This just means that you go back to the salon and the specialist applies more extensions to the more sparse areas of your lash or to the new lashes that have grown in. You can go as often or as little as you want. I personally waited about 2 and a half weeks to go get my fill. Below you can see the progression of my lashes and what they look like after a few days, about a week, and the day I got the fill.
As you can see through these photos, my left eye always has a few more lashes and looks a little heavier than my right eye. After noticing this for two weeks I informed the lash specialist at my appointment and asked her to fix them accordingly. I also asked to get them slightly more dramatic. Below is a photo of the results after my fill.
Overall, I’m really happy with the process and the results! It is very pricey, but to me it’s worth it at the moment. My best advice would be to not be afraid of the lash extensions. Go about your daily life and don’t worry about them getting in the way or falling out here and there. Take care of them, but still live your normal life (just without putting on mascara).
If you have any questions I would be happy to answer them! Thanks for making it this far in the post!
