This is for all of my people on a budget! I was walking around Target the other day and I saw a palette from a brand I have never heard of called Color Story. I always like to try new makeup, so when I saw that it was only $9.99, I knew I HAD to buy it! This is the Color Story Mystic Trance Palette.
First, I’ll go through all of the colors swatched. Each of these swatches consists of 1-2 layers of shadow. In this first picture you can see swatches of the first two rows. I am super impressed with the blue shade called Celeste! Blues are notoriously hard to make, so the fact that this one is so cheap and pigmented is impressive! I was also very impressed with Stargazer, the champagne shade, and Destiny, the mauve/pink matte shade. The rest are good quality, but these three in particular stood out! The one disappointment was the shade Emerald. It had very little pigment even after layering it three times and it looks very muddy.
Now we’ll go through the last two rows! I didn’t have any issues with these shadows. They were all very pigmented and swatched well. I particularly love the shades Charm and Black Magic. The shade New Moon was a little chunky, but after a little blending it was perfectly fine.
One thing to note is a few of the shades have a bit of a glitter spray over. This didn’t bother me because it wasn’t too significant and the shadows still performed really well. If this is something that really bothers you, definitely keep it in mind!
Now to try the palette on my eyes… I tried to do a wearable look using as many colors as I could to see how they all performed. I first used the shade Destiny in my crease. It had a lot of kickback in the pan but it was also very pigmented on the eyes. It reminded me a bit of Anastasia Beverly Hills eyeshadows. Then I intensified the crease with the shade Free Spirit. Again, really pigmented and had some kickback. Next, I took Hidden. This shade has a little bit of glitter throughout but it appears matte on the eyes. I like this because it makes it slightly easier to apply but it still is a relatively matte shade. I put this in the outer corner of my eye. I then put Shayla on the outer portion of my eyelid. This one was really nice, but not as pigmented as I would have preferred. It worked well with a brush and some setting spray. Then, I used Charm and Stargazer on the rest of my lid. These shades are really nice!! That completes the top part of my eye. I wanted to try out the blue color so I took a bit of Black Magic and Celeste on one brush and ran it through my lower lash line. I have zero complaints about their performance! The pigment was easy to control yet showed up really well! Lastly, I highlighted my inner corner and brow bone with the shade Soul.
I was pleasantly surprised with this palette and would definitely buy other ones! If you’re looking for a new palette that is both wearable and has some color, I think this is a good choice.
I’m pretty sure this brand is only available at Target, so be sure to check out your local store or click the link below to check it out online!
