It’s been almost 2 years so I did my blog post on my hair care routine, and since then, quite a few things have changed. I figured it was time to update you guys on what has been working for me. You can go HERE to check out my last hair care routine.
WASHING YOUR HAIR
I use the Hask Argan Oil Repairing Shampoo and Conditioner. I go back and forth between this one and the Pantene Repair and Protect Shampoo and Conditioner, but lately I’ve been LOVING Hask. It makes my hair so smooth and moisturized.
I wash my hair about 2-3 times a week, which is a little less than I did when I wrote my first hair care routine. I try to only wash my hair on the days that I go to work, which is only 2-3 days a week at this point. Either way, if you can, try not to wash your hair everyday. At first you may be a little oily but then your hair will get used to the less frequent washes and will adjust.
I only ever brush my hair when I get out of the shower or if there is a really big knot in it. I try not to brush it too much and when it’s wet I make sure to be gentle. I use the Wet Brush which is my all time favorite brush. It seriously is amazing and works so differently than the others. It detangles my hair quickly and easily.

PROTECTING YOUR HAIR BEFORE BED
I still use a silk/satin pillowcase as I mentioned in my previous post. I find that it’s better for my skin and my hair when I use one. They are kind of pricey but they last a really long time.
The most important thing that I have added to my hair care routine is hair oil. I have used one on and off throughout my life, and boy am I back ON. Right now I am LOVING the Olaplex Bonding Hair Oil. I need to reorder some soon! I put it on my damp hair after the shower, pretty generously and it really makes a difference when my hair is air drying. It’s helped preserve my hair especially on the weeks where I need to wash my hair more often than I’d like to because of work. If you take anything away from this blog post, it is this!

STYLING YOUR HAIR
I try not to style my hair very frequently, and by that I mean, I try not to use heat on my hair. If I do plan on using heat then I make sure it’s after I wash it so that I can keep the style for a few days. When I use heat on my hair I spray the Tresemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray. This helps protect my hair from heat damage.
If I’m wearing my hair up, I only use scrunchies or Invisibobble hair elastics. I do not use traditional hair ties. This is because they can be really damaging to my hair and they can leave an indent, which I don’t want. Scrunchies are my favorite, but lately I have been LOVING the invisibobble hair ties while I’m working in a healthcare setting because they keep my hair up and they are easy to clean after work since they are made of plastic. They are probably more damaging than scrunchies, but hey I’m not perfect lol.
I also use dry shampoo if I really want to stretch out my washes. I don’t personally use it often, but others swear by it. Give it a try and see what works for you. I have tried about 20 different dry shampoos (hmmm future blog post??) and my absolute favorite is the Oribe Gold Lust Dry Shampoo, but it’s pretty pricey, so if you are on a budget I love the Pantene Pro-V Dry Shampoo.
Lastly, I try to wear my hair in different hair styles so it’s not always in a super high ponytail on the top of my head. This is to prevent any further breakage at the front of my hair and to help promote the new growth that is growing there (anyone else have so many flyaways it looks like bangs at this point!?). I try to wear my hair in a low bun or low ponytail that is pretty loose, especially if I am just hanging around the house. If you can wear your hair down, more power to you. I have too much hair to do that all the time!
Tresemme Thermal Creations Heat Protectant – $5.49
Great post! I love using silk pillowcases and the Tresemme heat protectant!
